Dues for Taxes - 2007


The amount paid in dues is recorded on the last paystub for the year in the Year-To-Date column.

When calculating one's income tax, a union member may use union dues as a deduction, subject to the 2% IRS code reduction.

Dues are deductible only if one itemizes deductions.

*MTI Dues include PAC based on 5% of dues.


Teachers

 Dues/Fair Share for Full-Time Teacher (January-December)  $1,023.05
  Includes: $279.40 (WEAC), $147.40 (NEA), $551.70 (MTI) $17.00 (SWEIO)

Because of wide variances, teachers employed under part-time contracts should check their last payroll check stub for the year for the correct amount to use in calculating their taxes. Those who elect not to become members are required to make fair share contributions because of MTI's obligation to represent them in employment matters and because they receive all of the rights and benefits of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Such individuals do not pay into MTI's political action committee.


EA-MTI

 Dues/Fair Share for Full-Time EA (January-December)  $171.75
Dues/Fair Share for Part-Time EA (less than 19 hours/wk)  $85.86

EA LTE's and SEA Subs: Same as part-time EA dues above.

NOTE: Substitutes pay dues only in the months in which they work. Please check your last paystub for the year for the actual amount paid.
