Application for the Solidarity Fund

Solidarity Fund Application Information and Instructions

HISTORY. The Solidarity Fund was established in 1996 to assist MTI members in financial need as a result of participation in job actions. Those individuals who forfeit pay to achieve a fair and equitable agreement were able to receive disbursements from this fund. Donations were made from MTI members, MTI staff and other Unions including the Communications Workers of America, to support the efforts of Union members who were willing to make a sacrifice in order to advance the cause of the bargaining unit.

Since that time, the fund has remained intact and has been available to MTI members who have experienced financial hardship created by employment related misfortune. We regret our inability to provide more assistance to everyone, however, the Fund is limited in its ability to meet all the financial demands of MTI's members.

CONDITIONS FOR APPLYING. Below you will find the conditions which guide the members of the Solidarity Committee in making the decision regarding the disbursement of funds:

1) All applicants must complete the enclosed application form. All information contained therein, will be kept confidential.

2) Priority is given to requests by members who took part in job actions or Union-related activities and for which their wages were docked. Repayment is requested from those borrowing from the Solidarity Fund, once their financial stability is regained.

3) Other requests for funding due to financial hardship resulting from employment related misfortune will be referred to the Solidarity Committee. Amounts up to $250 can be obtained without reference to the Solidarity Committee. However, any amount greater than $250 must be referred to the Committee for approval. Repayment of these funds is required. Please see the application to establish a schedule or to provide the date of repayment.

4) Additional funds may be available through the Marcus-Johnson Fund at the Madison Metropolitan School District. Call Michael Malesytcki at 663-5387 for details.

WHO TO CONTACT. If you have further questions on the Solidarity Fund, please contact Ken Volante at MTI.
