General Election Day

Tuesday, April 2

Polls open 7:00 am – 8:00 pm

Thank you for participating in the MTI-Voters endorsement process. The ballot for political endorsements has closed as of 5:00 pm today. Political Action Committee members voted to approve the MTI-Voters recommended endorsements of Cris Carusi; Ali Muldrow; and a dual endorsement of both TJ Mertz and Ananda Mirilli.

BOE Seat 3: MTI-Voters recommends the endorsement of Cris Carusi as the most qualified candidate in this race. In advancing this recommendation, the Committee highlights Ms. Carusi’s record of active involvement in the MMSD, her stance on issues important to educators, and her commitment toward advancing public education. Carusi is opposed to vouchers and independent charter schools and strongly believes that we need to continuously work to improve our public schools, rather than support alternatives.

• BOE Seat 4: MTI-Voters recommends the endorsement of Ali Muldrow as the most qualified candidate in this race. In advancing this recommendation, the Committee highlights Ms. Muldrow’s advocacy through GSAFE for LGBTQAI youth in our schools, her focus on empowering youth, and her involvement and work to strengthen Madison’s public schools for all students.

• BOE Seat 5: MTI-Voters recommends a dual endorsement of both TJ Mertz and Ananda Mirilli. In advancing this recommendation, the Committee highlights Mr. Mertz strong record of service as a BOE member, his steadfast advocacy for the concerns of educators, and his unmatched expertise on educational policy and financial matters. At the same time, the Committee recognizes the valuable and diverse experiences, insights and expertise that Ms. Mirilli would bring to the BOE. Both candidates are strong supporters of Madison schools, public educators and public education and the Committee determined that a recommendation for a dual endorsement was appropriate in this race.

Wisconsin Supreme Court: MTI-Voters committee recommends the endorsement of Lisa Neubauer. This seat on the high court will replace retiring Justice Shirley Abrahamson’s post. Ms. Neubauer has dedicated over 30 years in the legal field (in the courtroom as a lawyer and behind the bench as a judge) and she believes in fair representation at every step in our judicial process. As a note, her opponent is former legal counsel to former Governor Walker. Conservatives have a 4-3 majority on the court. The April election could keep that balance in place or potentially widen conservative control 5-2.

Who is MTI-Voters?
MTI-Voters is the political action committee of MTI that seeks to identify those candidates most likely to advance policies supported by the members of MTI, policies that support MMSD staff and students, and advance the quality of public education in the District. The MTI-Voters Committee is a representative body of MTI members, comprised of the Presidents of each MTI bargaining unit, the MTI Treasurer and nine (9) others elected by MTI’s Faculty Representative Council. This member-comprised committee, guides MTI’s political endorsement process and advances recommended endorsements to the thousands of MTI members who contribute to MTI Voters and vote on endorsement recommendations.

This spring we have an opportunity to elect candidates who support and value public education. When voters turnout in high numbers, public education wins!

Below is a list of candidates MTI Voters Political Action Committee will be interviewing for consideration in our endorsement process. Candidates have been asked to complete and return questionnaires by January 11. Visit this page again for the most up to date information.
